Play among the red rocks in beautiful Sedona. This par-72 course was created by master designer Robert Trent Jones and offers three sets of tee boxes for players of all skill levels. Pedal under the shadowy image of Sedona's hauntingly beautiful red rocks outlined only by the full moon. Mountain Bike Heaven organizes stimulating (if different) dark outings every month, including the chilly month of February. Choose your clothing well for an enjoyable experience. If you are not up to the no-light version, alternative events include free local club rides on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. If you are uncomfortable hitting the trails on your own, you may arrange a custom tour through the bike shop.

Wintertime in Sedona offers lovely opportunities in some areas that are commonly busy during the peak season. Rise early and head out to the self-guided Crescent Moon trail at Red Rock Crossing, the location of more than 60 motion pictures. For a nominal fee(USD5) you may park and access the trail and picnic area. Bring your camera for tranquil photos of Cathedral Rock's red beauty, reflected in the waters of Oak Creek. Though an easy trail to follow, be certain to bring water, as none is available.

Visit this highly photographed spot that has Cathedral Rock as a backdrop. Bring a picnic lunch and a pair of binoculars for bird watching. This lovely place offers picnic tables and vaulted toilets. Enjoy walking the path and learning the history of the area. Many movies were filmed here at the crossing including "Broken Arrow". Take Highway 89A west to the Upper Red Rock Loop Road and head south; then follow the signs. Note that water is unavailable here.

Built by the Sinagua around A.D. 1130-1280, Honanki is Hopi for Bear House. Of masonry construction, this exceptional pueblo is one of the region's largest, having once held 60 rooms. Another site close to this location is at Palatki, which also offers a small visitor's center. Please call the Ranger District Office in Sedona for current hours, fees and road conditions leading to the site.

Palatki ruins believed to have been occupied from A.D. 1130 to 1280 A.D. are located northwest of Sedona and are accessible from West Highway 89A by taking Red Canyon Road North. One of Sedona's largest ruins, two trails lead to the alcoves and dual pueblos. There is a small fee associated with visiting this site. Two other ruins are nearby; Honanki, and Tuzigoot in Clarkdale. Call the Sedona Ranger District Station at the number above to check road conditions.
