Belcourt Castle is a unique medieval-style mansion and is one of the few great Newport homes still privately owned. Tour guides of the sixty room museum will tell you of the rich history of the armor collection and Renaissance treasures as well the history of former owners, including the Vanderbilts. The current owners' extensive collection of Asian and European art fills the house. Ghosts and an air of mystery fill the house as Belcourt offers spooky candlelight tours in addition to its historical and architectural tours. Walk through this spectacular 60-room, 1890s medieval-style castle designed by the famous architect Richard Morris Hunt and view the splendor of its magnificent banquet hall, solarium, oak circular staircase, Gothic ballroom, library, grand halls and beautiful music room. The owners of the Belcourt still reside there and only open their home periodically to the public. Special tours like the Candlelight Tours take place daily between September and December at 6p and the Ghost Tours are organized daily from September to December at 5p. Make it a point to attend at least one of the Christmas Tea Sundays in December.

The Newport Art Museum and Art Association is located on Bellevue Avenue in the Griswold House, The Cushing Gallery and the Gilbert S. Kahn Building. Historic and contemporary artistic treasures, paintings, furniture and ornaments depicting the heritage of Newport are housed on 2 acres focusing on Rhode Island and southeastern New England. The Museum offer lectures, concerts, shops and an art school. From February through may, the Annual Members' Juried Exhibition is on display.

The Chateau-sur-Mer is the first "palace" of Newport mansions. The lavish affairs held on the grounds marked the beginning of Newport high society until the appearance of the Vanderbilt family in the 1890s. High Victorian design in furnishings, paintings, wallpaper and decorations in this villa set the backdrop for former balls, picnics, teas and major Newport society events. In the 1870s the famed architect Richard Morris Hunt remodeled the home in the Second French Empire Style.

All tennis buffs know that this is the place to visit while in Newport. The International Tennis Hall of Fame is truly a shrine to the sport, its history and many champions. Found at Newport Casino located on beautiful Bellevue Avenue amongst shops and eateries, the site is a perfect place to stop in and admire the lush, grassy tennis courts and the International Tennis Hall of Fame Museum commemorating tennis pros from past and present.

The Elms was built in 1901 as the "cottage" of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Julius Berwind and eventually became known as another summer residence for the burgeoning population of the nouveaux riches at the turn of 20th Century. Modeled after the mid-18th-century chateau d'Asnieres outside Paris, The Elms showcases the Berwind's collections of art and ceramics. Now a historic landmark, you can learn its history and appreciate turn-of-the century gracious living. Admission: $11 adults, $4 children ages 6-17. It  opens daily at 10a.

A quiet pause in a busy day can be found in the restful green trim and polished mahogany of the Redwood Library and Athenaeum. Founded in 1747 on the principle of establishing good for mankind, and designed by American architect Peter Harrison, it is the oldest lending library and the first public classical building in America. Today, both members of the library and the public enjoy books, lectures, plays and exhibits in a true Athenaeum spirit. Guided tours daily with donation.

Rosecliff mansion overlooks Cliff Walk and the Atlantic Ocean. The mansion was commissioned in 1889 by a Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs and was designed by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White in the fashion of the Grand Trianon at Versailles. You will find Newport's largest ballroom at Rosecliff, which became a place of lavish Newport parties. It is the location for motion picture filming including the 1994 True Lies and The Great Gatsby.

There is no avoiding the blustery winds on these one-hour long cruises to Rose Island, but in return, you'll witness an amazing natural occurrence. March is the perfect time of year to see seals in their natural migration as they return to Narragansett Bay. These tours, which run every weekend in March and April, will take you along the rocky shores of Goat Island with a guide to help you spot Harbor seals as well as the more rare harp or grey seals.
