The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is that rare zoological institution whose most famous face is that of a human. Jungle Jack Hanna has ferried many a wild beast up to the most hallowed stages in late-night television. That said, the Columbus Zoo is where he's most at home, surrounded by lions, bison, tigers, elephants, eagles, bears, rhinos, prairie dogs, bobcats, sharks, bonobos, pythons, clownfish, koalas, cougars, frogs, pronghorn, timber wolves, manatees, wolverines and more. Hanna's celebrity makes for ample funding, so the animals' habitats and other zoo exhibits are finely crafted and a wonder to behold. See website for interactive displays, visitation recommendations and more.

The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum celebrates one of the most important innovations in human history: slapping some wheels and a handle bar on a big, fat engine and hitting the open road (also known as the invention of the motorcycle). Collected here are classic bikes from every decade dating back to the 1890s, as well as the stories of hundreds of the Hall's inductees. Memorabilia lines the walls, and the museum shop is loaded with supercharged souvenirs. See website for special event info and complete visitor details.

160 Easton Town Center

Easton Town Center takes retail to a whole new level. Some developers set their sites on a plot of land outside the city, but instead of putting up a regular old mall, they decided to build a small town. They did, complete with a town square, a town fountain, little streets zigzagging through small city blocks. But instead of local businesses and residential buildings lining those streets, it's mall shops, mall eateries, and mall entertainment. All the cosmetic touches are there, from cute little building facades to cute little old-timey police cars providing security. And there are three major hotels on the outskirts of "town" so that shoppers can truly immerse themselves in this clean, sober little sealed-up bubble. See website for complete business listing.

The Franklin Park Conservatory is an institution. Serving Columbus residents and visitors since 1895, it's always been home to a premiere collection of exotic flora. The place has changed with the times, however, opening facilities for other educational and entertainment-oriented events. Today, it's famous not only for its plants, but for its James Turrell light installation and its Dale Chihuly glass exhibition. Throughout the year, the conservatory hosts an ongoing series of special events, some aimed at the science-minded set, others more like an unabashed party. See website for complete visitor details and events calendar.

Franklin Park is best known for its famous conservatory, but there's lots more going on here as well. Firstly, it's a vast place. One could get lost wandering its paths for hours. There are open fields and groves of trees galore, as well as a creek complete with a baby waterfall. Some spillover from the conservatory means there are colorful flowers here and there, and the occasional piece of intriguing public art. Franklin Park's distance from the city means it's rare to find a crowd here, so if you need a quiet place for an introspective walk, or a guaranteed large chunk of open space for a well-attended birthday party or other function, this is the spot.
