One of the more popular parks in the Elsdon area, the Pasteur Park is located adjacent to the Pasteur Elementary School, and is maintained together by the Chicago Parks District and the Chicago Board of Education. After the World War II, there was a need to re-vitalize the parks and open spaces projects in the city, and the Chicago Parks District thus undertook a project of developing and building many parks throughout the city, of which the Pasteur Park was one. The Durkin Park lies adjacent to the Durkin Park Elementary School in the city neighborhood of Ashburn. The park was built to cater to the fast-growing Ashburn community in 1962, after the Chicago Parks District was approached with the need for the community to have an open space of its own. The Hoosier Grove Park lies a little away from the center of the village of Streamwood, on the Irving Park Road. Its area measuring 20 acres (8 hectares), this park is equipped with facilities like softball fields, soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, and a playground, and it is one of the premier recreational facilities in the village. This park is also home to the Hoosier Grove Barn, a heritage structure converted into a banquet facility, and the Hoosier Grove Museum, so a trip to this park can be quite engaging. As the biggest park in the Vernon Hills Park District, the Century Park lays sprawled a total area of 113 acres (45.7 hectares), comprising park land and water bodies. There are two lakes inside this park, the Big Bear Lake and the Little Bear Lake, which are great for fishing and boat rides. Besides, there are also ball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, and picnic shelters, to ensure that everyone finds something they enjoy doing.
