This gallery is dedicated to promoting the work of Mississippi artists. More than 70 artists are represented, working in a wide variety of media including paintings, pottery, stained glass, bone carvings, sculptures and serigraphs. The shop is an excellent place to start building a collection or to spot the work of a budding artist. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they welcome browsers. The two-story shop is located in upscale Highland Village and provides an excellent preview of its offerings on its Web site.

This store is owned and managed by a former 1950s Cotton Queen, who moves comfortably in Jackson's social stream and who also knows what is pretty. The shop's collections reflect her refined tastes, knowledge and interior design know-how. The result is an extraordinary collection of 40 dealers, offering upscale antiques, furnishings, artwork and accessories. Other Interiors Market shops can be found in Birmingham and Atlanta. All three stores offer rental services for special events.

The picturesque city of Canton is just a short twenty-minute car trip north of Jackson. In addition to being one of the more typically Southern towns in the region, Canton also plays host to Mississippi's largest swap meet twice a year on the second Thursdays of May and October. While you're in Canton be sure to check out the historic town square with its quaint courthouse, the backdrop for filming of the John Grisham movie, A Time to Kill. Public transportation is available to Canton from Northpark Mall in Ridgeland.

Bee-Bop Record Shop is an off-beat music store located off of Interstate-55 in Maywood Mart. It carries all kinds of rare records and band memorabilia. The store sell used and new records and CDs. Bee-bop also buys records and CDs that are in good condition. Sellers and buyers can also go onto their ebay page to look at what is in the shop. Bee-bop also hosts some area rock concerts and events. Just go by the store for information. Tickets to area concerts are on sale at this shop.

This independent bookstore's eclectic selection, knowledgeable staff and welcoming environment are unmatched in the city. Lemuria has prospered in a time of large chain bookstores due to its attention to individual customers and their reading interests. It is one of best stores in the nation for contemporary Southern writing. Hosting author readings on Wednesday nights, it holds frequent signings by nationally known writers. The first editions room includes signed works by Ernest Hemingway, Eudora Welty, Alice Walker and other greats. The store also has a full-time children's book buyer and an excellent children's section named OZ. Another branch is located across the parking lot (+1 601 981 4424).

Choctaw Books has a national reputation as a specialist in books on the South. With 70,000 volumes, it is also the largest bookstore in Mississippi for used and rare hardbacks. Whether in search of a 19th-century Civil War memoir or a signed Grisham novel, Choctaw is a booklover's dream. Most customers seek the thousands of $10-20 books that literally overflow into the aisles. But the Collectors' Room is where this quaint store truly distinguishes itself. First editions in this room can cost $1,000 each, and for many Faulkner and Welty titles, this price is a bargain.

Owners of this five thousand square foot building import directly from England, which helps keep everything realistically priced. They make two to three trips each year to purchase beautiful furniture, clocks, and decorative accessories. The merchandise is always interesting and you can find great pieces at affordable prices. The flea market setting includes 60 antique dealers, and while it may not represent the high end of collecting, you can find some surprise bargains, especially when it comes to collectible glass, fine old chinaware and stained glass. You can shop in the air conditioned building. The mall is easily accessible from I-55, I-20, U.S. 49 and Natchez Trace Parkway.
