Brasserie 33 is a small, cozy restaurant in Shadyside. The open kitchen turns out classic, traditional French dishes like soupe a l'oignon (French onion soup), escargots, cassoulet and bouillabaisse to name just a few. Of course, being a French restaurant, the dessert menu is delicious and decadent with staples like creme brulee and mousse au chocolat. The wine selection is also impressive, and they have a few European (mostly Belgian) beers.

5401 Walnut Street
Hartwell Building
Pittsburgh, PA 15232
The trendy strip of restaurants, shops and pubs on Walnut Street is always abuzz. Yet above Ann Taylor, in the Hartwell Building, My Thai is a serene and romantic alcove apart from the bustle. Draped metallic fabric decorates the ceiling and complements the gold and black tables. A wall of windows overlooks South Aiken Street at the intersection of Walnut. Even for those who are not accustomed to Thai cuisine, the menu makes it easy to order a suitable dish. The spice level of each option is clearly identified. From Pad Thai to Pepper Steak, the menu includes something for everyone. This is a great restaurant for an introduction to the tastes of Thai food. - Corinne N. M. Kenna

If diners are smart, they won't become too attached to anything on the Girasole menu. The Shadyside eatery likes to keep things fresh by constantly changing the selections with the seasons; even the desserts change daily. There are a few permanent selections (such as the spinach and ricotta ravioli and the potato gnocchi), and diners can be assured the menu will offer pasta and fresh fish. No reservations are taken, which makes things interesting since the restaurant is very tiny and located on the basement level. Free delivery is available to the surrounding neighborhoods. See website for menus, dessert lists, frequently asked questions, and much much more.
