If you like giant fish on the wall, then this is the place for you. The menu is comprised of fish, mussels, shrimp and other seafood dishes. Definitely a locals spot, this is a good place to dine in to get a feel for the area. For dinner or lunch, Tarpon Bend Food & Tackle is a great option when craving seafood.
450 East Las Olas Boulevard Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301
Las Olas Boulevard is Fort Lauderdale's poshest avenue, and is even more popular now that sidewalk dining has won a place on this strip of chic shops and trendy restaurants such as Jackson's Steak House. Through its imposing doors on the corner of a marble-faade office high-rise, diners can feast on prime steaks and chops, fresh seafood and puffy dessert soufflés. One final confirmation of its coolness is that cigars are accommodated here, not to mention provided. This is a prime time stop for business dining. Doors open for dinner daily at 4:30 pm .
1207 Southeast 17th Street Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316
Occupying a sleekly sophisticated building with angular architecture, Chuck's has been around a long time. Its cooking has kept this place popular for a couple of decades. Another location is at 2428 East Commercial Boulevard and a third in Boca Raton. Décor is casual with hanging ferns, intimate booths and low lighting. The restaurant's specialty is aged steaks. Other good choices are swordfish, dolphin, salmon, Alaskan king crab and Florida lobster tails. There's an outstanding salad bar with a wide variety of greenery, vegetables, and pastas.
715 East Las Olas Boulevard Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301
Familiar French food, tables inside on two floors, and tables outside in a tiny sidewalk cafe area is a formula that has worked well at Cafe de Paris for more than 40 years. On the menu are all the traditional favorites in French cookery, from crepes and Chicken Cordon Bleu to rack of lamb, beef Wellington and filet mignon béarnaise. Prices are reasonable for fine French cooking, which may also help to explain the restaurant's allure. A piano bar provides delightful background music to dine by.
900 Northeast 20th Avenue Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304
On the fringes of one of the city's trendiest neighborhoods, this cute little restaurant is tiny (just 34 seats) and tropical. You never know what you'll find on the menu, but you do know it will be good. Among options that have appeared on the bill are grilled duck in black cherry sauce, jerk pork or chicken and other selections with plenty of Caribbean touches. French influences are equally evident, however, and the fusion of the two makes for some exciting dining evenings. Beer and wine are available.
Royal India's decorative connections to both royalty and India are slim, but the food's good and that's what has kept the place in business for years. A favorite with vegetarians, the restaurant features plenty of options for omnivores as well. You'll find all the usual Indian flavors, from simple curries to creamy Chicken Tikka Masala, puffy or crispy Indian breads and fiery Vindaloo options. Outfitted more like a country inn than exotic India, the restaurant is a good spot for casually served, simply good, Indian options. Beer and wine are available and the restaurant is open for lunch on weekends.
741 Southeast 17th Street Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316
Warm woodwork and black booths provide a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere at this pleasant bistro near the beaches and the popular 17th Street shopping/hotel area. Bistro Mezzaluna has a contemporary look here, but the food focuses on traditional Italian fare, ranging from a variety of pastas to veal, beef and chicken favorites featuring the flavors of the Mediterranean. A 16-ounce veal chop is a particularly succulent offering, and you can wind up lunch or dinner with a creme brulee.
620 East Las Olas Boulevard Riverside Hotel Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301
Indigo serves Southeast Asian and Indonesian cuisines. The wide variety of foods includes many vegetarian selections. The friendly wait staff will gladly explain menu items and make suggestions. Located in the lobby of the Riverside Hotel, the comfortable restaurant is often crowded with guests attending private on-site parties, so plan to arrive early. Reservations are accepted only for groups of six or more. The fresh food selections include interesting lamb, duck and shrimp entrees. The Vegetable Casserole is excellent, as is the Vegetable Pizza on Nan Bread.
Described as "Great American Cuisine," Reed's Riverhouse is an excellent spot for quality steaks and seafood. The menu includes quite a bit of Southern and Cajun influenced dishes, prepared with a distinctive finesse. Who says American food is just hamburgers and apple pie? The dining room is semi-formal, but very comfortable, and has a gorgeous view of the river. The portobello mushroom appetizer is highly recommended. Entrees include an excellent New York strip steak, barbecued pork loin and snapper with jambalaya.
This is a popular local spot, both for drinks and for dinner. The menu was painstakingly designed to stand out from the competition, the result being a distinctive and artistic selection of Cuban-inspired seafood dishes. It would seem that the efforts of Chef Peter Boulukos are well appreciated, as Himmarshee's almost always has a full house. The restaurant is semi-casual, and draws a primarily professional crowd. Calico scallops make a flavorful starter. Or for a more exotic beginning, try the plantain and lamb empanadas. The best entrees are generally seafood options, although veal strip steak is the equal of any dish from the sea.
