40 Elbert Lane 2nd Floor, Wildwood Lodge Snowmass, CO 81615
There is a welcome no-nonsense feel about this popular restaurant. Instead of trying to be Los Angeles hip, it focuses on serving up good food in a family-friendly atmosphere. As the name implies, this restaurant is all about meat. Try hearty selections like the Garlic Rubbed Prime Rib, which comes in three sizes, and the Molasses Cured Pork Loin . You can also choose from an array of nightly wild game specials. There are also plenty of chicken and seafood options. All entrees include a visit to the massive salad bar, which includes 39 items and eight dressing choices. The full bar offers a well-priced wine selection. A kid's menu is also available. The restaurant is closed during the warmer seasons, so be sure and check out the website or call ahead to see if it'll be open for your sojourn in Aspen.
It is rare that a bistro can find a happy medium between casual charm and highbrow taste, but Sage pulls it off very well. The presentation of the dishes alone is worth the meal in itself. They are so meticulously prepared that you do not know if you are supposed to eat them or use as centerpieces for your table. The entrees have a Colorado-lean, but with worldwide flair. The Vanilla Grilled Lamb Chops and Honey-Mustard Roasted Chicken are very popular. The menu constantly changes to match the season, but be forewarned: Sage closes during certain seasons, so make sure it's open before you plan to visit! Breakfast and lunch are also available. Try to snare a table on the patio area for the mountain views are outstanding.
It is not often that one can use the words Chinese restaurant, pool table, foosball, Happy Hour, and large screen TV in the same sentence, but this restaurant pulls it off in style. It is a blue-ribbon combination that has made it the oldest oriental restaurant in Snowmass. Besides a preponderance of Asian art, the interior's most outstanding feature is its uncompromising views of the Snowmass Valley. When the weather allows opt for its sun-splashed deck. The menu is wonderfully diverse, and better yet, is MSG-free. For a nice twist surprise your tongue with a Squid Salad. Then try the Shitake Mushroom Duck, or the Lemongrass Pork Chops for dinner. Sushi and sashimi options abound.
The dining room at Woody Creek Tavern is always packed and the walls are papered with snapshots of regular patrons, including famed gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. The menu features burgers, steaks and Mexican fare. Save room for real Key Lime pie. Expect a crowd as this restaurant is very popular with both tourists and locals, and groups of 8 people or more are encouraged to call ahead for a table; see the website or call for more information.
Quite often the term "local's favorite" is overused, but the term does ring true when describing this excessively casual restaurant. Since 1972, it has been fueling skiers, bikers and hikers with affordable fare that seems perfectly suited for the mountains. Homemade soups, hearty stews, and veggie and beef chili, all of which are served with homemade bread, are the stars of the menu. Salads are numerous and are meals in themselves. Sandwiches, including grilled cheese and chili cheese dogs, complete the menu. The drink list is limited, but does include beer and wine.
264 Snowmelt Road Timberline Lodge Snowmass, CO 81615
Thanks to the sea troller, "Overnight Delivery," this New England-styled restaurant serves live Maine lobster. Add in the knowledge that the owner is a former Cape Cod Lobsterman and you get the sense that this casual establishment knows a thing or two on preparing them. Diners can choose from having their lobster steamed, grilled or baked. If you are not hungry for crustaceans there are steak and pasta options, as well as other fresh seafood such as swordfish, halibut, shrimp and Alaskan crab. A kid's menu is available.
It is only fitting that a restaurant with such an eye-catching name should offer an equally eye-catching menu and setting. Huge picture windows furnish great mountain views and of departing and returning dog sled teams, which create the impression that one has a private box seat for the Alaskan Iditarod race. There is a definite menu theme of wild game. Escallope of Wild Boar, roasted Loin of Elk, and grilled Atlantic Salmon are just a few of its dinner selections. Reservations are a must. The restaurant is only open during the winter season. Check the website or call for more information.
This world-famous restaurant, which has set the standard for ski mountain dining, is one of the few highbrow restaurants you will ever see where all the clients are garbed in turtle necks and suffer from hat head. The lunch menu features an array of meticulously prepared dishes. Try the Wild Mushroom Lasagna, or opt for one of the sandwiches like the Colorado Smoked Salmon, or the Dakota Buffalo Burger. Breakfast offers fruit filled pancakes, Belgian waffles, and yogurt and granola plates. Reservations are accepted for breakfast and lunch only. Groups of 16 or larger must reserve two days in advance. Walk-ins will not be seated until the entire party is present-it is very strict about this. Gwyn's can be found at the top of the Alpine Springs lift.
10 Village Square Snowmass Village Mall Snowmass, CO 81615
This happy place is one of the few spots in Snowmass that invites one to plop down at the bar and enjoy a cold draft while watching a game on TV. Bar stools line its huge corner windows that afford unobstructed views of the mall. If you prefer a table, there are several booths that strangely resemble wooden Tilt-a-Whirls. Video machines, and pool and foosball tables adorn the room. The menu offers classic bar food such as wings, pizza, calamari, burgers and sandwiches.
