Housed in a welcoming red building, the Vermillion serves good food at a reasonable price. The Vermillion started as a hamburger stand in the 1930s, and has since expanded into the home where it now serves customers. Good service and the no-nonsense food attracted President Jimmy Carter in 2004, a picture of which can be seen on the website. Takeout is available, and the menu includes specials every day of the week, or try the Chicken Fried Chicken Breast or a Broiled Fish Filet.
The White Sands Motel, Marina, and Restaurant has been owned and operated by the Marchan family since 1952. The restaurant, which has a lovely waterfront location, specializes in serving fresh seafood from Marchan family recipes in a casual environment. Special dishes include gumbo, caldo de marisco, oysters marchan, and several different kinds of ceviche. Call for hours.
This pirate-themed restaurant overlooks the Queen Isabella Causeway and Laguna Madre Bay. Moreover, the restaurant is located on a historically significant bluff which served as a military fort nearly 200 years ago. The restaurant is decorated in "pirate castle" style with nautical decor and pirate figures. The menu at Pirate's Landing is decidedly seafood-oriented, with everything from shrimp to mahi-mahi, but the restaurant does serve steak, chicken, turkey, and a good, old-fashioned 1/2 pound hamburger. After dinner, be sure to go for a stroll on the restaurant's pier, the longest fishing pier in Texas.
