This clean, bright place called Jason's Deli is a comfortable stop for a quick meal. The sandwiches are full of flavor, the baked potatoes are huge and the salad bar is the freshest in town. A personal favorite is a one-trip salad bar and half a Plain Jane baked potato. It is just enough to put a smile on your face, but not enough to make you want to go back to your desk and sleep for the rest of the workday. This deli is consistently good and the service is well organized, so mistakes are few.

ThunderCloud Subs is Austin's independent version of Subway and/or Quizno's. Also, just like both these well-known restaurants, they are popping up like wild mushrooms throughout the city. This particular location is in the strip center, under the Berkshire SoCo Apartments. For a super healthy meal, opt for the Veggie Delight (cream cheese or hummus, avocado, sprouts, olives, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions), add char-grilled chicken, a side of baked potato chips, and an iced tea flavored with fresh lime and lemon wedges. Ruin all of that with their handmade brownies, cake slices, and/or cookies for dessert. - Freddie Obregon
Trudy's Tex-Mex has joined other companies harnessing the explosive growth of South/Far South Austin by opening a location outside of Regal Theatres. While this restaurant is not as popular as the one by the UT campus, it is more spacious with less of a wait (even on a Saturday night). Those of age can indulge in a Frozen Strawberry Margarita or Mexican Martini with the accompanying chips & salsa. Pork Carne Asada is to die for, with tender pork tenderloin chunks swimming in jalapeno de arbol sauce, a side of Mexican rice, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, and tortillas. Again, while this is not the hottest spot of the three locations, the food proves it doesn't matter where you are. - Freddie Obregon
The family behind Pho Thaison has recently opened a new location in the growing Southpark Meadows Shopping Center. As with virtually all things in the rolling, green hills of Austin, TX, the restaurant is a hidden gem tucked away in the strip. Paintings of the Vietnamese culture grace the walls while beautiful fish swim away in the aquarium. Iced Vietnamese coffee is strong while Tofu Xao Tuong Xa Ot is healthy with its broccoli, bamboo shoots, onions, jalapenos, and spicy lemongrass sauce. Leave a penny as an offering to the small Buddha by the cash register for an enlightened blessing. - Freddie Obregon
Uncle Billy's, located in South Austin, serves up delicious barbeque and brews its own craft beers. Food is all the no frills, big flavor you would expect from a BBQ joint, with sandwiches of pulled pork, smoked turkey and brisket, and they even have not so expected dishes like Fried Chicken & Waffles on weekends. Then of course they have family style meat plates that come with two of their delicious side dishes. If you want a slightly healthier option they also have a few different salads to choose from. And don't forget the first part of the name, the Uncle Billy's Brewery hand-crafts its own beer.

Located, as the name implies, in South Austin, the Trailer Park & Eatery actually consists of three different food trailers. Those who come across the eatery have their choice of tacos, hot dogs and desserts. Torchy's Tacos offers massive tacos filled with the likes of fried avocado, fried chicken with green chiles, jalapeno sausage and more. Man Bites Dog offers hot dogs with both classic and inventive topping combinations like the classic chile cheese dog or the "My Big Fat Greek Dog," which is a Merguez lamb sausage topped with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onion, olives, cucumbers and feta cheese. When you've had your fill of the savory, Holy Cacao serves up "cake balls," rounds of cake on a stick, dipped and topped with more sweet goodies.
