Houston's improvisational comedy troupe chose its name because of the fun, aggressive and competitive format. Comedians split up into two teams and act out scenes according to suggestions from the audience. The audience awards points to each team according to their performance. The troupe also books corporate and private events. It is a great way for anyone to unwind after a hard week. A non-alcoholic beverage bar is available.
This cafe offers such a casual dining experience you will be amazed at the incredible food that comes from this kitchen. Located in the Heights, it has its own parking lot in back for those busy weekday lunches. The line will probably be long, but it moves pretty quickly and it is definitely worth the wait. The menu is diverse. Vegetarians will enjoy the monstrous Caesar Salad, while Tex-Mex lovers will prefer the sizzling fajitas straight from the grill. The daily specials are always a good deal and popular.

TQLA adequately tells its story the moment you walk in. The strategically dim-lit cantina is ideally fitting for its perfect Washington Avenue location. It's the perfect place for an impressive business lunch with a tremendous regional Mexican food menu. Many of the options are light and refreshing, like the Baja Fish Tacos or the scrumptious Baja Ceviche. TQLA is a really popular place on both sides of sundown, as it's the place to be after work. Get in before the dinner crowd shuffles in and order a round of shots of the tequila of the month and some Guacamole Fresca for the table, your friends will love you for it. Looking for a place for romantic (and not boring) Friday night dinner? You found it!

While some nightclubs seem to attract a niche crowd, Club Ei8ht is known for attracting a decidedly diverse mix of folks. The dance floor is a bit on the small side, so prepare to get up close and personal with anyone in your near vicinity - making friends has never been so easy! DJs play mostly top 40, with a few oldies sprinkled in here or there. If you need a breath of fresh air, head to the outdoor patio and veg out in front of the TV - the dance floor will be awaiting your return.

The locals say this is one of the best cups of espresso in town and that's because this cafe is serious about coffee. The wide variety of beans and means of brewing they offer have one thing in common: quality. Not a fancy place, and not designed for those craving a corporate coffee drink, Catalina Coffee is an authentic coffee lover's dream.

Seldom does such an intrinsically cool place don the matching atmosphere to go with it. Among the ever-lively Washington Ave's super trendy bars, pubs, and clubs, Pearl Bar takes the cake. Pearl has 2 different areas working in beautiful nightlife harmony with one another. The inside is a buzzing modern sanctuary of beautiful young people and crowded mingling, while the outside is just a stupendous backyard party. The bartenders are seasoned veterans of mixology and they handle the overflowing weekend crowd well. Stop in for less crowded happy hour with great drink specials. -Adam Rosen

Burger joints in Houston are serious business. With sharp competition like Christian's Tailgate, a proper Heights (gastro) Icehouse, other burger-makers in town better up their game. Their White Oak location was perfectly adapted to its surroundings, with its Austin-like semi-open-air structure, which is different from their proper sports bar facility in Midtown. But the food is legit, as proven by getting voted Houston Press's Best Burger for three consecutive years. Go get a Famous Burger and put onion rings on it. As a blast from the past, try the Steak Fingers, which I haven't seen since the 1980's. Food aside, Christian's is a perfect place for a beer and a good time. -Adam Rosen

Cricket's is just a charming little small town cafe smack-dab-in-the-middle of the country's 4th largest city. From the surrounding neighborhood to the shop itself, the place just seems otherworldly and pleasantly surprising. The colorful joint serves up breakfast, lunch, and dessert, with an unbelievable array of fresh ice cream and gelato flavors. Ask them to make you a milkshake, easily one of the best in town. Stop in for breakfast some time. Whether you're an egg guy or a waffle gal, they will set you up right before work. Attention vegetarians and vegans: Cricket's has your lunch menu. Stop by for an animal-less soup and sandwich. -Adam Rosen
