Cain's gained national prominence back in the 1970s when legendary British punk group the Sex Pistols performed here, but it has been around for much longer than that. Originally constructed in 1924 by local businessman Tate Brady, the ballroom has seen several generations of musical trends come and go and come again: country-western, rock, swing, jazz, and more recently, new wave, alternative, and indie. Lots of big-name entertainers from the 1970s and 1980s performed here before they became famous, and that tradition continues today, with artists like Foo Fighters and Blues Traveler now part of Cain's storied history.
