Located in Issaquah's Gilman Village, this restaurant called Nicolino follows the little mall's themes of brick and wood. Enjoy sunny afternoons in the courtyard, rainy afternoons in the warm, heavily decorated dining room. The food is robust Italian. Dip hearty bread in rich infused oils. Complement pasta in hearty marinara with a selection from the moderately priced wine list. If dinner leaves you at all unsatisfied, try the temptatious desserts!

The strip-mall location in far-flung Woodinville may not suggest fine dining, but Chef Kent Betts at Italianissimo turns out reliable Northern Italian cuisine. And his experienced staff delivers it with grace in the spacious lace-accented dining room. Handmade pastas include a tender Lasagna and fresh Ravioli stuffed with ricotta and spinach. Veal is the star of the menu, purchased, dressed and usually cooked by Betts himself. Classic desserts like gelato and tiramisu complete delightful meals.
Those saddened by the closing of Hilbo's Alligator Soul by Green Lake in Seattle should make the drive to this Everett spot. The decor suggests the Southern heat, or that might be the burning in your mouth. Chef Hilary Craig blends Cajun, Creole and other South-of-Southern influences to deliver gumbos and catfish plates, etouffee and ribs, all of which shine like the Mississippi on a hot afternoon. For dessert, try the bread pudding or the pecan pie. The restaurant has free parking, outdoor seating and live music from Wednesday to Saturday nights.
"The Golden Goat", as the locals know it, has an extensive wine list, which garnered a Wine Spectator Award in Excellence. The wines, mostly from Italy with a few from Northwest wineries, run $15 and up. Proprietor, chef and wine enthusiast Jeff Boswell designed his Northern Italy-influenced menu around the wine list. Try the butter lettuce appetizer stuffed with ricotta, gorgonzola, garlic and olive oil, and the mushroom risotto with grilled quail.

With so many dining options in Seattle, a meal at Cafe Nola might not seem worth the ferry ride. But in warm weather few settings can beat the patio, where diners relax over contemporary cuisine and breathe the fresh island air. The chef harnesses a world of influences to produce entrees of high, if not spectacular, quality. If you can, leave the car in Seattle. The restaurant is a short stroll from the ferry dock.
633 Front Street Leavenworth, WA 98826 +1 509 548 4031
This restaurant features two settings. Outside on a sunny riverfront corner, the entertaining beer garden offers up tasty sausages and accordion music pumping from large speakers. Inside the quiet, dimly lit lower level of the dining room serves gourmet selections in a more intimate setting. A strolling accordionist plays here Friday and Saturday evenings. The starter bowl of Cream of Mushroom Soup is large enough for two. The flavorful Wiener Schnitzel comes with excellent Gorgonzola Mashed Potatoes. The wine list features both local and German, Austrian wines, with many available by the glass.

A surprising number of local acts appear here as well, including live music, film festivals and avant-garde theater. You wouldn't know it from the outside, but Roanoke Inn is the oldest business still active on Mercer Island. Inside the 85 year old establishment, the air gets a bit murky as cigarette smoke chokes out the already faint lighting, but this only makes it easier to imagine the days when trappers made this little joint their stomping ground. On warm summer days head out to the front porch and relax in the sun. Comfy and cozy, this place is a good spot to relax with a game of darts and a group of friends. The grub is a little on the greasy side, and the portions are large. The menu is filled with burgers and sandwiches and the selection of brews is broad. Even the wine list has gotten larger to keep pace with the surrounding real estate prices. Breakfast features traditional bacon, egg dishes and pancakes.
