Touted as the longest continuously running community theatre in the United States, its funky, art-deco facade of cool purples and neon lights brightens the historic San Marco district. Since 1919 Jacksonville Theatre has been engaging audiences with live plays and musicals. Today's current troupe, consisting primarily of volunteer talent, has recently performed such plays as "Once Upon a Mattress" and "Spinning into Butter".

Overlooking the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville, the Performing Arts Center reopened in 1997 following a major facelift. A beautiful structure, it is divided into a symphony hall and two theaters, surrounded by the natural beauty of the river, which can be seen through the sweeping glass walls of the main hall. Eclipse has one of the best old-wave nights in Jacksonville, with DJs spinning an endless assault of 80s hits. The dance floor, especially on Friday nights, becomes so packed with dancers that movement becomes limited. It draws a definite younger crowd so expect a lot of kids with backward baseball caps. The establishment occasionally opens its doors to kids under twenty-one. Drink specials vary, depending on the night.

The Lazzara Performance Hall at the University of North Florida Fine Arts Center is a 1,000-seater hall named after Gasper and Irene Lazzara, who have contributed a larger sum towards the hall via donations. It is one of the best performance venues technically and has staged many great pieces and artists, both seasoned as well students. The hall has the best in lighting and sound equipment which brings new life to the music and dance extravaganzas performed on this stage. Do contact the center for details.
