Round Midnight is one of the most popular nightclubs in Boulder and the Pearl Street mall district. Located in a basement area that stretches beneath multiple buildings on Pearl Street, Round Midnight plays music of all kinds, serves wine, mixers, and lots of different beers (including local micro-brews). As you can imagine, students and locals in the area love this spot. There aren't any particular theme nights, but the cover charge is minimal, and the occasional live music acts are a real treat. Best of all, Round Midnight's dance floor is huge and open and always filled. For those more interested in dancing and socializing than drinking and themed clubs, this is the best place in Boulder to try. - Sabrina Zirakzadeh

The Cup is a locally run coffeehouse that is the one of the most popular student cafes on the Pearl Street Mall. The most common complaint about the cafe is, in fact, that is often too crowded to sit down for a hot drink and snacks with friends, even during off-peak hours. Still, if you are lucky enough to get in, it's easy to understand the Cup's popularity. The atmosphere is bohemian and chic, there are very few aluminum tables and chairs but many couches and corner booths, the prices are lower than any other cafe on Pearl Street, and the espresso-based drinks are addictive and delicious. The family that owns the Cup runs it themselves and keeps things friendly to both regulars and newcomers alike. A great stop while you explore Pearl Street, but don't expect to sit in. - Sabrina Zirakzadeh

This kitchen is located in a historical edifice situated right at the foothills of the Rocky mountains. The informal interiors are much prefered by restaurant regulars. Come summer and lots of salads are tossed up with fresh and organic ingredients. While Footlamb Cassoulet is the winter favorite, Sea scallops with Pea Puree is the spring delight! Enjoy a wholesome breakfast here as you peruse the morning newspaper.

Instead of being a typical oxygen dive bar full of regulars playing air hockey and listening to Yanni on the jukebox, this hip little spot exudes a very stylish swank. Overstuffed chairs and couches make for relaxing perches to wedge a tube in your nostril and inhale a variety of scented air selections. There is also a small bar which serves herbal elixirs and bottled water. An indoor fountain and relaxing New Age music adds to the room's calming feel.

In Boulder it is always a good time for ice cream. That is why this small hole-in-the-wall scoop shop keeps the doors open well into the night. The cones are cheap and the ice cream, which comes in an array of creative flavors, is homemade on-site. You can actually watch the transformation of sugar and cream into a tasty chocolate chip or raspberry cheesecake flavor. The location on the Hill draws all sorts of characters, from hungry hippies to college professors to wandering tourists, making for an interesting wait in line.

This Pearl Street Mall hangout brims with locals. Do not let the entrance turn you away. While a dark stairwell leads to this underground hideaway, the inside is friendly and fun with six pool tables and a big screen television. The bar pours a variety of beverages including an assortment of local micro brews. This is one of the few places in town you can get away with having a cigarette.

This restaurant offers an authentic Italian dining experience (complete with the traditionally unhurried service). The low-lit dining room exudes luxury, with designer chairs and antiques. But during the warm months, you will find most people outside. The menu offers a wealth of inventive Mediterranean dishes, along with other Northern Italian creations. The mussels with clams and shrimp are a popular starter. The grilled salmon, served atop a bed of saffron potatoes, highlights the menu. You can also choose from veal, chicken and beef selections.

This adorable café, bedecked in a menagerie of colors, sits one block east of the Pearl Street Mall. Its lively atmosphere and cluttered tables promote conversation. Most of the menu items come with creative names, such as the Altitude Adjustment crepe and the It was Sam Andreas Fault omelet. Vegetarian dishes are plentiful. A full espresso bar offers a multitude of caffeine fixations, and a range of beers and wines. Live music plays Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
