1000 Aguajito Road
Monterey, CA 93940
The list of guest room amenities in this hotel is a mile long. Little extras such as fax machines, work desks and sofa-beds can prove extremely convenient in certain situations. While some guests may not need to use them, it is still nice to know that they are available. On-site amenities and services are also extensive. Tennis courts and a putting green are on the grounds, and golf courses are less than a mile away. This hotel is a particular favorite of corporate travelers.

The rooms are simple and airy, most coming with a fireplace. The inn caters mostly to tourists in search of a pleasant stay near the water. A true haven of solitude, it overlooks the town and offers cute little porches from which to watch the seagulls hurry about. See website for up-to-date visitor information.

740 Crocker Avenue
(near Sinex Street)
Pacific Grove, CA 93950
Here you will find cozy rooms with big fluffy comforters, rattan chairs, and a gorgeous fireplace. Outside it looks like a regular two-story country inn, but the service is great, the staff is friendly, and you're minutes away from the beach. This is a decent and economical place to stay, and it is perfect for those on a shoestring budget. You will not find a more relaxing spot. See website for more information.

612 Central Avenue
(at the corner Seventeenth Street)
Pacific Grove, CA 93950

Pacific Grove, CA 93950
This rustic craftsman-style cottage dating from the 1920s has a great view of the ocean. Its rooms all have different names like "Blue Heron," "Sandpiper," and "Surf Scooter," and each room has a different feel to it, some having oriental rugs, some oak detailing, some a small deck or kitchen. The lobby and waiting rooms are wood-paneled and have a great view of the gardens outside. It is a good place for the outdoorsman or woman. See website for more.

800 Asilomar Avenue
Pacific Grove, CA 93950
Look up "retreat" in the dictionary, and you will likely find a picture of Asilomar next to the entry. Nestled amongst a forest of Pacific Grove pines (and just footsteps from a coastal playground of dunes, bluffs, and surf), the historic conference grounds are an ideally surreal place not only for a meeting, but for any brand of family getaway as well. Even if you and yours manage to somehow tire of the peace and tranquility of this Julia Morgan-designed nature-enveloped sanctuary, note that the facility is located within just minutes of Downtown Monterey, and all its family-friendly attractions (from the Monterey Bay Aquarium to Fisherman's Wharf and everything in between). For a less hectic jaunt back into civilization, trot right across Sunset Drive to the Fishwife for some Latin-influenced seafood, fine wines, and unforgettable Key Lime Pie. See website for reservations, online specials, group rates, and complete visitor details.

221 Asilomar Boulevard
Pacific Grove, CA 93950
While it is comparable in price, size and amenities to a moderately priced motel, this place has a lot more personality than your average Quality Inn or Motel 6. It is a sunny yellow building tucked away on a quiet street in Pacific Grove. Guest rooms are cheerfully and comfortably furnished. Cottages are available as well. The property is within easy walking distance of the ocean. All the attractions of Monterey and Carmel are mere moments away by car.
