Crestwood Suites bills itself as an extended stay hotel, mainly because of the kitchens. Each room comes furnished with a stovetop, full-sized refrigerator (except the Standard suites), microwave and coffee maker. Although there is no pool, other amenities include a fitness center, laundry and cable TV. The inclusion of a desk, free local and 800 calls, and dry cleaning services makes it beneficial for business people in town for longer stays, although there are not separate ports for phone and Internet access. Pets are welcome with a non-refundable fee.

The spirit of Old Florida is captured at the Edison Beach House, located on Estero Island. Every room in the suites-only hotel boasts a kitchen, laundry facilities and a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Mexico from a private balcony. The 24 suites are available in seven floor plans, but spring breakers beware: the hotel only to rents to those over the age of 26, and all suites are non-smoking. As an added attraction, the hotel received a Coastal Friendly Award for its efforts to protect the sea turtles. Personal checks are not accepted.

This comfortable downtown hotel adds a few extra touches to the basic Ramada style. The rooms have key card entry locks and indoor corridor entrances for safety. Travelers appreciate the free local calls and complimentary USA Today newspaper. 24-hour fax and photocopy services are available, as well as meeting facilities for up to 125 people. Although there is no restaurant on site, a complimentary continental breakfast is offered from 7am to 10am. Rumors lounge is open from 4pm to midnight.

Every aspect of the Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa, from the spacious rooms and private fishing pier to the 40,000 square-foot spa & fitness Center, is tailored for comfort and luxury. The massive complex features a 240-room hotel, 70 resort condominiums and a 107-room inn, plus six pools, 14 whirlpools and a tennis complex that hosted two Davis Cup tournaments. Also on site, guests find restaurants, golf, cruises-the list goes on. The only thing missing is the perfect beach. Of course, the price matches the luxury, and most activities cost extra.

The Sabal Park Inn is for those looking for a more personal touch. The Inn is small, with 12 rooms surrounded by two acres of landscaping. You can even pick your own fresh fruit, and there is a large swing under an old oak tree. Business travelers may find it too out of the way. The efficiencies have weekly rates that range from USD245 to USD483. Owners Red and Betty Blanchette were rewarded with an award for the best motel in North Fort Myers.

Homewood Suites by Hilton is for travelers who like the comforts of home, including a complete kitchen and a residential bath. Although 10 miles from the beach, the hotel is right by the exclusive Bell Tower Shops, featuring Saks Fifth Avenue, Cobb 20 Theatre, and lots of restaurants, including Bistro 41 and Shoeless Joe's. There's also a babysitting service, a grocery shopping service, and complimentary breakfast and evening social. With a pool, gym and the Minnesota Twins just down the street, you may not make it to the beach.

Take a break from the corporate world at the Li-Inn Sleeps Bed and Breakfast, located in the Old Fort Myers Downtown area. Originally built in 1912, the Inn was renovated in 1998. Choose from one of five rooms, each with its own individual feel and name. Kat's Room is airy and rosy, while Leo's is light and sunny. Each room has a Queen-sized bed and private bath. There is one handicapped-accessible room. A family-style breakfast is served at 8am, although the inn is not suitable for young children. This comfortable inn is within walking distance of the Edison and Ford estates, Centennial Park and the downtown entertainment district.

The West Wind Inn on Sanibel Island has a conference room that seats 50. It also has 500 feet of beach, a heated pool, tennis courts, and a pool bar, pretty much guaranteeing you won't get much work done. Surrounded by palm trees and foliage, the Inn looks like an island paradise, complete with a fish/shell cleaning hut and beach service. If you can resist the lure of the beach and the butterfly garden, each room comes with a refrigerator, a computer port and coffee service.

Parents are assured that the kids will not be bored. The Fun Factory, geared towards kids 3 to 11, offers supervised activities such as skits, scavenger hunts and movies.

For female business travelers, there are oversized vanities and reserved lighted parking spaces. The business center features fax, copier, and computers, while meeting rooms seat 80 people. For larger meetings, the Harborside Convention Center is within walking distance.
