Centre Street is a favorite among visitors to the island of Nantucket with its array of shops, galleries, and fine restaurants. Guests of the Center Street Inn are fortunate to have all this out their front door, and a lovely brick patio and garden out their back door. The mid-eighteenth century home is appropriately furnished with canopied beds and decorated with flowered quilts. Some rooms have shared baths, while others have private baths. Since the innkeepers have their own friendly terrier, they don't allow guests to bring their own pets.

The simple, gray-shingled exterior of this former private residence built in 1765, belies an elegant and gracious interior where care has been placed in the choosing of all interior details. Carlisle House has functioned as an Inn for over a hundred years. There is a full-range of accommodations available, from simple single rooms, to gracious, handsomely decorated suites. The rates range accordingly and they also fluctuate throughout the seasons. Breakfast is served daily in the cheerful "morning room".

Each of the nine rooms in this 1709 ship captain's house in the heart of the Historic District is furnished with antiques and period reproductions. Some rooms have canopied beds and fireplaces, and all have private baths. One- and two-bedroom suites have working fireplaces and can accommodate four to five people, perfect for families and groups. The highly regarded Woodbox restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, and you can take your cocktails out onto the patio.

Union Street Inn is ideally located in the historic district, just off Main Street and the harbor at Straight Wharf. It features 12 rooms, all with private baths and air conditioning, cable television, hairdryer and alarm clock. Some of the rooms have fireplaces. Although the inn underwent complete restoration from 1990-1995, it retains its original wide-plank floors and 18th-century furnishings. Rooms have either canopy or four-poster beds. For families and groups, inquire about suites and connecting rooms. Full country breakfast is included. Rates vary with the season.

This eight-room, two-story guesthouse was built in 1835 and is centrally located in the heart of town. The guest rooms have private baths and either king or queen size beds with big, fluffy pillows to sink into and amazingly soft sheets. Some rooms have balconies and some have mini-refrigerators. Two parlors are common rooms for guests, where continental breakfast is served each morning and wine and cheese each evening. Packages available.

Located in the center of town, along Petticoat Row, the Roberts House is a group of four historical properties: the Manor House, Linden House Cottages, The Periwinkle Guest House and Roberts House Inn, totaling 42 rooms. Each building has its own features and individual room decor. The Roberts House Inn features rooms with air conditioning, king and queen canopy beds, private baths and Jacuzzi tubs. Many rooms have fireplaces and most have refrigerators. Rates are discounted in the off-season.

Part of the Roberts House Inn, a group of four historic properties, the Manor House is conveniently located in the center of town. Built in 1846, its 15 rooms have either king or queen canopied beds. Many of the rooms have working fireplaces; all have television, air conditioning and phones. Next door to the main house is a two-bedroom cottage with fully equipped kitchen. This inn has been in business more than 125 years, and has been operated by the same family for three generations. Its 12 rooms include two inexpensive single rooms, and two rooms with two twin beds. Shared bathrooms and a usable backyard make this a great property for families or groups. Guests seeking more intimacy should reserve a room on the quiet side of the Inn. All rooms are non-smoking and have refrigerators and sinks.

This 1850s sea captain's house is located in the Historic District next to the Whaling Museum and the Nantucket Yacht Club. All the rooms are either studios or one- or two-bedroom suites, each with private entrance and a garden view. Each room has a refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, bathrobes, cable television with VCR, compact disc and cassette player, cordless phone and answering machine. Guests may borrow videos and CDs from the library or participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor games. Beach towels are also provided. Rates vary by season.

Constructed in the 1880s as an annex to the upscale (and since destroyed) Sea Cliff Inn, this Victorian-style guesthouse has 10 bright rooms, eight of which have private baths. The rooms with shared bath are ideal for families or groups. Continental breakfasts including fresh baked muffins or coffeecake is served in your room each morning. Some rooms have harbor views; there is a porch and large back yard and a television in the parlor. The inn is a 10-minute walk from the town center. Rates vary by season.
